WORK ONGOING

Directors of the Association participate on Television, Radio and the Print Media and also in local, national and international fora addressing the subject of ageing:

  • Contributing to debate on property rights, income adequacy health and social care provision, codes of practice, advocacy, social and political participation, life long learning, technology, change and innovation and choices in long term care of the frail and vulnerable.
  • Participating and networking with The European Anti Poverty Network, Social Justice Ireland, Vincentian Partnership, The Community Platform, in the knowledge that for those reaching old age with problematic health status and little financial reserves, to live in dignity requires positive discrimination.
  • Representing Senior Users on a variety of projects, critiquing policy and the practical provision of services.
  • Also engaging in change and innovation to meet both existing and emerging needs in an era of unprecedented change.
  • Informing the membership and the wider community through the quarterly Newsletter of the current state of play regarding the Older Person Agenda.
  • Supporting active participation in social economic and cultural life, thus demonstrating the positive resource in terms of skill and life experience which older people represent and their potential and actual role in enriching and reinforcing the social fabric of communities.
  • Working with the network of organisation of older people engaged in consulting with and influencing government policy and practice.
