The Irish Association of Older People was established in 1990 and is incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee. It operates as an independent entity committed to pursuing and attaining the objectives set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Association is managed on a daily basis by volunteer members under the guidance of a Board of Directors appointed in accordance with Company Law. Membership is open to all.
The origin of the Association is grounded in a decision taken at a National Conference organised by the National Council for the Aged in October 1989 responding to the United Nations International Plan of Action on Ageing 1983.
